1847 Margarete Steiff was born in Giengen near Ulm on 24th July.

1849 Margarete Steiff was taken ill with polio at the age of 1½ and
spent the rest of her life confined to a wheelchair.

1865 After innumerable visits to the doctor and health resorts,
Margarete Steiff finally came to terms with her illness, but she never stopped
enjoying life.
